Most Adult Sunday School classes are intergenerational and all are open to visitors and new members. Classes begin at 9:45 AM. We invite and encourage you to visit several classes and then choose one that you find interesting, affirming, and challenging!
2011-2012 Sunday School Classes
The College Class
M-303 (Melton Building—3rd Floor)
Taught by Derek Dodson, the College Class will engage in relevant conversation on scriptural, theological and life issues with the goal of making a connection between deep faith and real life.
Formations Intergenerational Bible Study Class
M-206 (Melton Building—2nd Floor)
This Bible study class is led by David Pennington using Smyth & Helwys literature which follows the Lectionary.
Graduate and Young Professionals
M-301 (Melton Building—3rd Floor)
The Graduate & Young Professionals class is led by Bryan Maine. This class follows the Lectionary and uses Feasting on the Word curriculum as a guide. Bryan is a Ph.D. student in Church History at Baylor University.
Inner Wisdom
M-201 (Melton Building—2nd Floor)
Inner Wisdom is a contemplative approach to biblical study facilitated by Blake Burleson and Jim Kennedy. This inter-generational class practices prayer, meditation, chanting, and imaginative exercises which amplify sacred scripture. Blake teaches world religions and Jim teaches Old Testament at Baylor University.
Roundtable Class
M-205 (Melton Building—2nd Floor)
This conversation-oriented class rotates the responsibility for leading class discussion among the members as they choose various topics to study.
Sims’ Class
M-203 (Melton Building—2nd Floor)
This class takes a group approach to explore some of the more provocative issues of today.
W. Lowrey Cooper Class
M-206 (Melton Building—2nd Floor)
All are welcome in this eclectic group taught by Bill Cooper. The class decides whether to study an author, a book of the Bible or some other topic for several weeks.
W.D. Bowen Class
M-204 (Melton Building—2nd Floor)
This Bible study is taught by Lai Ling Ngan. The Bowen class is made of a diverse group of couples and singles, representing a wide range of ages, and who hold a healthy variety of theological perspectives. Lai Ling teaches Old Testament Scriptures at Truett Seminary.
Wilkinson Bible Study Class
M-207 (Melton Building—3rd Floor)
Our goal is to engage the Bible through a discussion-based approach that is intentionally formational (how does God want to shape us through Scripture?) more than informational (what can we learn about Scripture?). Facilitator is David Wilkinson.
Women’s Bible Class
The Bride’s Room (Sanctuary Foyer)
This intergenerational, Scripture-focused class is led by Rosalie Beck. This spring the class will study the the work of the Holy Spirit followed by a Lenten study.
